Launching the MHM Method: A Holistic Approach to Modern Homemaking

Hi, I’m Heather, founder of Modern Woman Old Soul and I’m so pleased to announce the launch of my Modern Homemaking Method (MHM Method)! If you’re here, you are – or would like to be – a homemaker. But what does that really mean?

Can you be a homemaker if you have paid employment? Absolutely!

Can you be a homemaker if you live in a very small home or flat? Definitely!

Can you be a homemaker if you live alone or with a partner but don’t have children? Of course!

The Modern Homemaking Method (MHM) is about inspiring and empowering you to create a home that you want to spend time in, invite others to spend time in and that allows you to fulfil your other dreams and goals. It is not about spending every waking hour cleaning, nor is it about aspiring to a specific type of home, but about using your time wisely to make the tasks of everyday life efficient and enjoyable, freeing you to pursue hobbies, family time or anything you’re passionate about.

What’s Special About the MHM Method?

There are so many cleaning routines, decluttering gurus and scheduling apps available, you’re probably wondering what makes the MHM Method unique?

First of all, the MHM Method is not really about cleaning! The MHM Method is a holistic approach to centring our efforts and routines around our home environment and the way we spend our time in it. It is an awareness that the rhythm of the seasons and the year impacts us and that we can allow our homes and our routines to be guided by those natural cycles. It is about recognising that what we eat is important for our sense of wellbeing as well as our health and so preparing and cooking food should not be an afterthought but nor can we spend hours each day creating elaborate (and often expensive) meals. Last but not least, it is about an appreciation that our home is our base and we cannot feel relaxed or free to explore the world if our home and home life makes us feel stressed, overwhelmed or unhappy.

What makes the MHM Method even more approachable is that it is not about following a specific set of rules, changing your life to fit my idea of what your home should be like, or creating a lifestyle and home that is inauthentic to maintain appearances. What the MHM Method can do is provide the tools, advice and guidance to ground yourself in your home, create daily, weekly and monthly routines that enhance your enjoyment of your home and seek to establish your home as the hub of your life – the place where you, and those who live with you, can relax, recharge and revive themselves, ready to face whatever is outside your front door.

I’ve Tried Other Methods and They Didn’t Work For Me…

I hear you. I’ve tried and tested a lot of systems that aim to help you clean, declutter and do more so that you can do less, and while many of them have their good points they don’t encompass the overall idea of homemaking. Yes, if your house feels clean and looks tidy it will probably be a nicer place to be but if you spend all your time cleaning and tidying it, you’re probably not going to want to be there in the first place!

I want to stress again, of course there is an element of keeping a house clean and tidy as part of homemaking but the MHM Method is about so much more. How can you balance growing and tending a garden with keeping your house clean? What if you like having lots of meaningful things around and don’t want to declutter? What if you don’t love to cook but feeding your family homecooked meals is important to you for health or budgetary reasons? The Modern Homemaking Method will address all these competing priorities and allow you to curate the system in a balanced way that works for you and your family.

Are You Ready to Say Yes to the MHM Method?

Does living in tune with the seasons appeal to you? Do you love – or want to love – spending time at home? Do you want to make changes that feel right to you and help you achieve your goals in and outside of the home? Then you are ready!

I will be adding new content to the site on a regular basis to help you with your Modern Homemaking goals and I will be offering exclusive content via the MHM Method newsletter, but for now, subscribe to Modern Woman Old Soul for updates straight to your inbox.

I’d love to hear from you as I develop content as to what you would find most useful or information you feel is lacking or not appropriate to the realities of modern homemaking. Comment or drop me a message at hello@modernwomanoldsoul.com.
